The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine A benchmark estate in the Mâconnais, awarded two stars by the prestigious French wine guide the RVF, Domaine Barraud is an essential reference. The meticulous care devoted to both the vineyards and the cellar, combined with organic farming and the expertise of Julien and Anaïs Barraud, elevates their wines to the pinnacle of the appellation. These are age-worthy white wines, distinguished by their precision and impeccable balance.
Wine Sourced from 40- to 60-year-old vines, the 2023 White Pouilly-Fuissé Les Châtaigniers Vieilles Vignes offers a captivating expression of Chardonnay on limestone soils. The concentrated, creamy nose unfolds with a mix of chalky minerality and toasted notes, immediately drawing you in. The oak aging is present yet refined, adding depth without overpowering the wine’s natural elegance. On the palate, it is generous and full-bodied, reflecting its beautiful ripeness with both concentration and finesse. A brief aeration upon opening allows it to fully reveal its character. This wine will evolve gracefully over the next six years and beyond. Rated 93/100 by the Selection Committee.
Vinification Hand harvested. Vinification and ageing for 12 months, 2/3 in 600-litre barrels and demi-muids with 20% new wood and 1/3 in stainless steel vats, then 3 months in bulk in stainless steel vats. Production of 6000 bottles.
