Our committee's review
Ah, Côte-Rôtie! Which wine enthusiast hasn't dreamed of tasting it at least once in their life? To be honest, it's one of our favorite appellations...
Côte-Rôtie is one of the oldest vineyards in France. Its history dates back over 25 centuries, starting with the Greeks who introduced vine cultivation and winemaking to the Rhône Valley region. However, it wasn't until the 20th century, in 1940, that the appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) was created to revitalize the wine market in Ampuis.
Today, Côte-Rôtie covers 330 hectares, with the king grape, Syrah, taking root on the steep slopes of three northern Rhône communes: Saint Cyr-sur-le-Rhône, Ampuis, and Tupins-et-Semons.
The most important aspect of Côte-Rôtie, however, is the diversity of its terroirs and lieux-dits. Adjacent parcels can produce entirely different wines. The most famous sites include Côte Brune and Côte Blonde, La Landonne, La Turque, La Mouline, Côte Rozier, Les Rochins, Le Mollard, and Lancement.
We have selected three essential domaines that are renowned by enthusiasts for expressing the classic grandeur of Côte-Rôtie. These wines are never too rich or overly oaked, consistently showcasing the incredible purity of Syrah alongside the granite, mica-schist, and gneiss soils. In short, these are world-class wines, unique and unparalleled.
(Re)discover this mythical Côte-Rotie appellation and let yourself be intoxicated by this deep wine with its silky texture and velvety tannins.
